State of Illinois RFP Illinois Accessibility Code Comparison
Capital Development Board
Illinois Accessibility Code Comparison
The Capital Development Board (CDB) has posted a request for proposal (RFP) to update the accessibility provisions of the Illinois Accessibility Code (IAC). The work product will include a side-by-side comparison of the 1997 IAC with the 2010 ADA Standards and other proposed standards. The goal of the project is to review, and propose revisions to, the IAC Standards in order to reflect the more stringent requirements of the 2010 ADA. The revised accessibility provisions will provide businesses and people with disabilities clear, up-to-date standards that are consistent with federal requirements already in place. It will also eliminate language that is unclear or imprecise, making compliance and enforcement easier. The project also seeks to integrate Accessibility Guidelines for Pedestrian Facilities in the Public Right-of-Way, Accessibility Guidelines for Pedestrian Facilities in the Public Right-of-Way; Shared Use Paths and Accessibility Guidelines for Outdoor Developed Areas.
