Illinois Codes
Building Codes and Regulations
CDB is tasked with identifying local building codes and publishing them on its website. All municipalities with a population of less than 1,000,000 or a county amending or adopting a new building code must, at least 30 days before adopting the code or amendment, provide an identification of the code, by title and edition, or the amendment to CDB.
Illinois Accessibility Code
The Illinois Accessibility Code (Code) implements the Environmental Barriers Act. The Code includes design requirements for public facilities and multi-story housing units as defined in the Code as well as all spaces and elements within them. It has the force of a building code in Illinois. The Code constitutes the minimum requirements and any governmental unit may enact stricter standards to increase access.
Illinois Energy Conservation Code
The Illinois Energy Conservation Code is designed to help protect the environment and reduce energy consumption. Through this statewide policy, state officials hope to cut pollution, moderate peak energy demand, better assure the reliability of energy supplies, and stabilize energy costs.
State Building Code Information
Any report by another State agency to CDB about proposed changes to new building, construction, or amendments to existing requirements in accordance with 20 ILCS 3105/19 are made available on CDB’s website. CDB also provides information about all applicable State building codes, construction-related statutes, and rules.
